Five Things to Know Today

New Chief, Graduation List, Chris Isaak, Referendum

  1. Cloudy today with some sun in the morning and more clouds this afternoon. High 58F. Winds N at 20 to 30 mph. Tonight considerable cloudiness with a slight chance of a shower through the evening. Low 47F.
  2. Ledyard has a new fire chief, Steve Daggett. He was elected by fire company members at a department meeting last week. Congratulations Steve!
  3. Chris Isaak, whose Christmas collection features an awesome cover of the Elvis favorite “Blue Christmas,” (now I’ll be humming it all day) will take the stage at MGM Grand at Foxwoods on Sunday, May 22, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30, $40, and $50 and are on sale now.
  4. UConn graduates are not quite two days removed from that safe, nurturing nest of academia and already it has come to our attention that we may have missed some names in our commencement coverage Monday. If your special graduate was overlooked, email the name and, if possible, some graduation pictures.
  5. One week from today, on May 17, Ledyard residents will have a chance to vote on a $49.1 million town budget for 2011-12, and also a couple of major bonding issues, at a town referendum. This is the first of several reminders you will have.
