Regarding the ceremony that the schools had. It wasn't out of the goodness of their hearts. ThisRead Morei s a mandated law by the stated of CT. If the BOE has school on a holiday the districts are required to offer an "educational program" in observance of such holiday. Wish I learned this earlier I would have voiced this to the BOE who never seemed to let us know this. I believe they should have the ceremony just not on the holiday. The day before or after is great for those "teachable moments". My children were not in school but away honoring our family Veteran's. Thank You all for your service.

It seems to me that school (and working) on Veterans Day is considered a non problem, especially by Read Morethose who have not served or do not value the sacrfice of the time served by the military. If everyone were required to serve our country in some capacity, whether military, hospital personnel, group home workers or whatever, that duty would be recognized as valuable by all to be honored.

i would never disrespect anyone's comments. i may not agree but some of us have a differentRead Moreopinions . veterans day to me is special. having a school day and then having "educational programs" to a captive audience so what i suspect will be come a floater shows a lack of respect. i have a idea how about visiting veterans hospital, there they can see first hand what sacrifices have been made for the life they live.
