Daria-- Its time to give it up. You lost the 2010 primary and you lost this year after campaigning for 6 months to a guy who got in less than a week ago. Its clear this is an anyone but Daria majority. If Paul had not come in, Doug would probably have been nominated. Suggest you run for the state legislature. Then, if you win, after a couple of successful terms, you would have more credibility as…   more ›

Gales Ferry Man Running For 42nd District

Fran Lowell is Republican-endorsed candidate for 42nd State Representative seat.

Gales Ferry resident Fran Lowell was nominated Thursday by Republican delegates to represent the 42nd District in the General Assembly. Republican delegates from Preston, Ledyard and Montville met at the Preston Town Hall to pick their candidate. Lowell expressed interest in the seat through an email and was the only person who expressed an interest in running this year. Lowell's next line of duty is to notify the state of his intention to run. Lowell also has to raise $5,000 from 100 different people, with more than one half of that coming from residents in the 42nd District, according to the nominating committee's chairman. So far, Lowell's only opponent comes from Democrat Timothy Bowles, a Preston selectman, who announced his …

CT needs a man of Fran's common sense conservative values and fiscal responsibility in the General Assembly. The current session revealed how out-of-touch the Democrat majority has been in addressing issues of CT's short- and long-term economic health. They have erected a virtual Keep Out" sign at our borders to businesses even contemplating moving here. Moreover, most graduates of our state …   more ›

Tom Reynolds Will Run for Prague's Seat

The state representative says that the Senate would offer him a better way to serve

Rep. Tom Reynolds announced today that he has decided to run for the state Senate seat being vacated by Edith Prague. Prague, who is 86 and has served in the Senate since 1994, made a formal announcement Wednesday that she has decided not to run again. Reynolds, who lives in and grew up in Ledyard, said he has been thinking about running for the state Senate for a while. “Every two years,” he said, “ I ask myself, ‘Am I making a difference, and what’s the best way to serve?’ Reynolds said he believes he has made an important difference over the years, and that the best way to serve is in the Senate. “After eight years in the House, now serving as deputy majority leader,” and more than a decade in local government, Reynolds said, “I think…

Tom Reynolds is one of the cluelss Democrats who have brought CT to fiscal ruin. He recently, in lockstep with his Democrat colleagues, supported the SEIU's effort to organize home health care and child workers workers, a disastrous education "reform" bill that caved to the teachers' unions and will cost CT taxpayers $100 million and produce no discernible results, and same day voting, which just…   more ›

Gingrich, Romney, Santorum, Paul and Obama Make The Cut

A press release from Secretary of the State Denise Merrill: A press release from Secretary of the State Denise Merrill Friday joined Connecticut Republican Party Chairman Jerry Labriola for a news conference at the State Capitol to announce the names of the presidential candidates who have qualified for the ballot in Connecticut’s presidential preference primary on April 24, 2012.  Today also marks the first day that primary petitions become available for presidential candidates not selected for the ballot by Secretary Merrill, pursuant to her statutory authority under Connecticut General Statutes 9-465. “We are getting closer to a very exciting decision for Connecticut voters – who do they want to run for President for the Republican and …

Lawrence Says Campaign Was For Real

Either way, his run for mayor was a great experience that helped restore faith

Although much of the focus during this mayoral campaign was on three hopefuls – Mayor Fred B. Allyn Jr., Republican John Rodolico and Democrat Tony Saccone – there has been a fourth candiate, Rob Lawrence. Lawrence is the Green party member who entered the race as a petitioning candidate – the steam-fitter, husband and father of three who ran such a distant fourth that he was all but forgotten by voters. What was his campaign all about? According to Lawrence, who lives on Village Drive, it was about nothing less than becoming Ledyard’s next mayor. And even on Tuesday he still was insisting he was in it to win. “I think I’m going to do great,” he said. He finished with only 56 votes. Still, Lawrence said the race gave him an opportunity to …

While I agree with comments here that sewers are a huge asset to viable commercial development, unless the scope of the development is equally large, it's not economically feasible. Even a tertiary treatment system or packaged treatment facility is extremely expensive and requires the effluent to go somewhere (ie: lagoon, stream, river). That's before the DEP approvals.   more ›

New-Look Town Council Elected

GOP Picks Up Seat as Newcomers Join Long-Time Members

The decision by three members of the Town Council -- Republicans Terry Jones and Jim Diaz, and Democrat David Holdridge -- not to seek re-election created space for some new faces to join the group.  Except two of the new faces are actually fairly familiar in town government. Steve Eichelberg, chairman of the Economic Development Commission, and former Zoning Chairman Kevin Dombrowski, will join Mike France as the council's newest members. All three are Republicans. Other winners include Republicans Linda Davis, Sean Sullivan and John Marshall, and Democrats Mary McGrattan, Bill Saums and Sharon Wadecki. Democrats Naomi Rodriguez and Ed Monahan failed to win seats on the council. "I'm very grateful," Eichelberg said. "I know I had a lot of…

Naomi - You waged a spirited campaign and I commend you for your efforts. You stepped up and you worked hard. Too often folks take the importance of participating in a campaign as a member of a team for granted. You did not. I am sure we will see more of you in Ledyard. Best regards - Mimi   more ›

A Convincing Win For Rodolico

Republican-Endorsed Candidate Elected Mayor of Ledyard By Wide Margin

Mayor Fred B. Allyn Jr. had said throughout his tumultuous first term that he would step down when the residents of Ledyard asked him to. On Tuesday, the residents spoke. The result was a surprisingly easy victory for Republican-endorsed candidate John Rodolico, who surpassed Allyn by more than a 3-1 margin. Rodolico received 1,726 votes to Allyn's 530 votes. Finishing second in the four-man race, with 960 votes, was was Democrat Tony Saccone, the Gales Ferry fire chief and relative newcomer to town politics. Petitioning candidate Robert Lawrence received 56 votes. Although Rodolico said he was expecting a closer race, there were indications of a wide victory margin. Voters exiting the polls Tuesday mentioned good schools and lower taxes …

Congratulations Mr. Rodolico! Now hire a chief of police and lets move on! We need someone to run that department who has something invested in our town and will better manage our police budget and personnel. The antiquated system of paying a lot of money for a, many times inexperienced, state trooper to manage things has to go. I look forward to your promise of fiscal responsiblity, this is one …   more ›

People just cannot leave it alone. Rhetoric, Fred should have listeded, he did but some in this town bought in to alot of stuff that just is wrong. Do not get me started on Rhetoric Tom.
