Former Ledyard High Choir Director returns for concert

On Monday, Feb. 20, Ledyard High School Music will host the Roberts Wesleyan Chorale as a part of their 2012 New England Tour. Roberts Wesleyan is conducted by former Ledyard High School Choir Director Dr. Jamie Spillane.

Dr. Spillane's choir will perform  a concert, along with the Ledyard High School Chamber Choir,  at St David's Episcopal Church in Gales Ferry on Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m. The concert is free but there will be a request for donations to help defray the cost of the LHS Chamber Choir trip to sing at Disney World in March. Here is a Press release from the choir:

The Roberts Wesleyan College Chorale will be touring New York and New England this February, traveling from Rochester to Boston and New York City.  Along the way, the choir, under the direction of Dr. Jamie Spillane, will present concerts at classic New England churches and The Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York and do clinics sharing their music with high school choirs in three states.

The Roberts Wesleyan College Chorale has a long history of performing great choral music in the city of Rochester as well as throughout the United States and Canada. Each year, the chorale performs with the Rochester Philharmonic in the famed Kodak Hall and sings to full houses at the Cultural Life Center on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan, often with the Roberts Wesleyan College Community Orchestra.

Students from the chorale go on to careers teaching and performing music professionally as well as careers in the ministry, education, journalism, the sciences, and more. Dr. Spillane is well-known to southeastern Connecticut as a former long-time resident of Mystic and choral director at Ledyard High School as well as the familiar director of the annual Mystic Seaport Community Carol Sing.
