Foxwoods Resort Casino held a dinner, on July 10th, to honor its employees who volunteered at the 2012 Special Olympics Connecticut Summer Games and to celebrate its twenty year partnership with the organization.
One outstanding, long-time volunteer, Gisele Perry, was presented with the 1st Annual George Ford Memorial Award for her "dedication, enthusiasm, and compassion (that helps) to advance the vision of the Special Olympics."
The award was named for George Ford who resided in Fairfield and volunteered for Special Olympics for more than 30 years. He was a leader of the Special Olympics aquatics program and served as Head Official at both State Games and Regional tournaments. George’s wife Betty, son Dennis, and daughter Betsy – a Special Olympics athlete – were on hand to help present the award.
Foxwoods' Barbara Currier and Jenn Hess were also recognized for their many years of dedication, leadership and service to Special Olympics Connecticut.
Since 1992, Foxwoods Resort Casino and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation have supported Special Olympics Connecticut by hosting yearly fundraising events and offering support from over 100 volunteers annually. For the last 19 years, Foxwoods has also sponsored the aquatics venue at Summer Games.
