Junior runner Bryce Hedman of Ledyard lead the LHS team and the ECC conference with the fastest time and highest place to earn All State status Saturday at Wickham Park In Manchester, CT. Hedman finished 4th in the MM division running 16:55 for the 5km course. His time was also the fastest posted of all runners from the ECC and he earned a trip to the State Open next Friday on the same course. Hedman becomes the first LHS runner to make the Open Race since Corey Coates in 2010. Hedman had the early lead after tearing through the first hilly mile in 5:18. He was, at the end, the only underclassman in a front running field of seniors that made up the rest of the 1st through 8th places in the MM division. Senior captain Max Armstrong sailed into the 28th spot followed closely by teammate sophomore Aaron Norcia at 34th. Sophomore Christian Fogg was next for the Colonels in 92nd place. Freshman Geralson Withrow completed the scoring for the blue and white with his 113th place arrival. Rounding out the varsity performance Saturday was junior Zachary Jones in 124th and senior Al Miller in 130th places out of the 178 runners who finished the MM State race. The LHS team placed well as they grabbed 10th place overall out of 26 MM division teams by place while turning in the 6th best time in the same MM division. The LHS top five performers, of all the 17 ECC Conference teams on the day, were also able charge into 2nd place for the best total time just ahead of Woodstock and less than 3 minutes behind Norwich Free Academy.
