Best of Ledyard: Winner of Best Pizza Restaurant

received the most votes for the best pizza place in Ledyard and Gales Ferry, according to the final tally of the poll results Friday.

Of the 681 total votes, Fireside received 360 or 52 percent of the votes for best pizza. , which held the lead for the first couple days of the poll, got 241 or 35 percent of the voters' favor. Newcomer, received 66 votes, or 9 percent of the total.

There were six votes for in Foxwoods and there were eight votes for yet-to-be-revealed pizza restaurant(s) in Ledyard and Gales Ferry that Patch is unaware of.

This week, Ledyard in the area and they have not been shy to tell us why.

A Patch user named Victoria wrote, "Fireside all the way!!!! Best pizza ever....great atmosphere...great service. Love it"

But, a Patch user named Dannyboy disagreed and said, "We travel from Stonington to get Valentino's pizza. Great pizza and a nice clean atmosphere. Worth the trip. Real New York Style Pizza hard to find but they get it done there."

And, a Patch user named Sandra took pity on Ray's, which , and wrote, "An unfair poll, seeing as how Ray's JUST opened. I've been a fan of theirs since they opened in East Lyme, so they have my vote!"

Patch users appear to determine their preferences by crust and cooking oven, according to the majority of comments, but regardless of which restaurant people prefer, it's clear that Ledyard Patch users like to eat local. No one rallied for a trip to Pizza Hut or for Domino's delivery.
