The Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut has announced the recipients of its 2012 competitive grant funds, and two Gales Ferry organizations have been included.
According to the Foundation's list of competitive grant recipients, the Latin Network for the Visual Arts was awarded $2,500 for its Latin Views Show and Education Programs and the was awarded $15,000 for heating assistance.
"The giving spirit is alive and well in eastern Connecticut," Alice Fitzpatrick, Community Foundation President, said in the press release. "It is a joy to work with people who want to help others and make good things happen in our region."
The Foundation supports more than 150 eastern Connecticut programs, the press release says, noting that grant funds were up by a third this year, thanks to partnering donors.
"We are thrilled to announce a record high in first quarter grants totaling $824,655, for programs that range from soup kitchens to symphonies to youth development efforts," Valerie Grimm, a Community Foundation Board member and chair of a grants committe, said in the press release. "This year several very generous donor advisors added $250,000 to the grants we were able to make from endowed funds previously established by donors over our 29-year history."
