Does May 2 Have Multiple Personalities?

May 2 is both the National Day of Prayer and the National Day of Reason. Two days that would be mutually exclusive except that they are on the exact same day. Their sponsoring organizations mark the day separately.

Patch covered the National Day of Prayer in Ledyard last year. It was a non-denominational call to prayer across the nation, of which, Ledyard took a small part. A group of church leaders and anyone else interested gather in the conference room in the Bill Library and pray to God for our nation and our community. All are welcome and that begins at 5:30 p.m.

The Atheist Humanist Society of CT and RI will host this year’s Day of Reason and they’re planning on holding a blood drive at the public library in Groton. The non-theist group says they hope to “help build up the supply of blood prior to summer when shortages typically arise” and that theists and non-theists alike can donate from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m.

It won't be hard to honor both days, what will you do? Looking for more things to do this week? Check out Ledyard Patch's community calendar.
