Great Escape: A Walk In The Woods

Something To Do, Just For You

It’s about time to get out and breathe in some fresh air after all of these snowstorms. Make your way to the peaceful grounds of the off Chesterfield Road behind Fair Oaks School.

Enjoy the pine groves and take in the serenity of Beaver Pond along one of the meandering foot paths. With the snow melting, at least intermittently these days, you might need hiking boots. Should we get more substantial storms, bring your cross-country skis or snowshoes.

Along one of the paths, you’ll cross a foot bridge over Fox Brook, walk along Beaver Pond, travel north toward ruins near Black Ash Road, loop to the west and cross another bridge over the brook on your return to one of the trails.

You’ll find ample parking and an easy-to-read map detailing two trails and various footpaths. The Main Trail, the longer of the two, circles around about a half mile, while Brook Trail circles around about three-tenths of a mile.

Whether you choose trails or footpaths, you’re bound to clear your head along the way in this beautiful New England forest, listening to the sounds of birds or maybe even feeling a gentle breeze on your face.
