i5 Teaching Network Announces Summer Science Camps

The Gales Ferry Community Center, Alice Acres and Mystic's Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center have teamed up to offer half-day summer arts and science camps for Ledyard kids! 

Better still, the are offering an early bird discount of  10% for those who register and pay by Monday, according the announcement on their website. In order to get the early bird special you will need to pay the entire amount. Some other discounts may apply depending on where you live, if you have any questions stop by the i5 Gallery Tuesday-Thursday noon to 5:30; Friday noon to 5:00 or Saturday 10 – 12. 

Discounts also apply to Grandparents hosting grandchildren for the summer and a few scholarships are available for those in need. 

According to the website, the summer workshop line-up is: 

Nature Explorers - Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center Entering 1st – 3rd Grade: Explore the natural world as each day we will take on a new environmental science adventure. Meet live turtles, snakes and birds, go insect catching, use binoculars, search for salamanders, plays games, dissect owl pellets and much more. At Alice Acres Farm, 39 Military Hwy, Gales Ferry, CT Cost: $125 GFD/$130 Non-GFD Ledyard-GF/$135 Other towns

Get a Clue! 1 – Forensic Science: Patterns - i5 Teaching Network LLC Entering 4th – 7th Grade: Learn observation skills by matching patterns including finger, lip, and shoe prints. Find clues at mock “crime scenes” that are age appropriate. Art, math, and science skills will be included. At Gales Ferry Community Center, 18 Hurlbutt Rd Cost: $90 GFD/$103 Non-GFD Ledyard-Gales Ferry/$108 Other towns 10% discount for those also taking a DPNC workshop.

Art and Nature – Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center Entering 1st – 3rd Grade: Take an artistic look at the natural world. Nature has inspired artists through the ages. From natural collages and sculptures to sun printing and nature journaling, this camp combines the best of art and nature. Participants will also have a chance to meet live animals, hike and catch insects to help gain inspiration for their art. At Alice Acres Farm, 39 Military Hwy, Gales Ferry Cost: $125 GFD/$129 Non-GFD Ledyard-GF/$134 Other towns

Find clues at mock crime scenes that are age appropriate. Prices differ by location because Gales Ferry District members pay a district tax and therefore are eligible for a reduced price for many programs. If you pay a district tax, in addition to regular Ledyard Town taxes, you are eligible for the lowest rate listed.
