Ledyard Fair to Crown Its First Ever King

The search is on for contestants to compete in the first annual Mr. Ledyard event. Applications will be accepted through August 10.

The lads will be joining the lasses on stage this September at the Ledyard Fair, as the event will host its first ever Mr. Ledyard competition to run alongside the annual Miss Ledyard pageant, The Day reports.

The addition of a male contest, which will only be open to 14-18-year-old boys, has been a popular request for years, pageant organizer Michelle Hinton said to The Day.

"I just really wanted to give the young boys in the town the opportunity to win some scholarship money as well," Hinton said of the competition. Miss Ledyard contenders are vying for a $900 top prize this year, The Day said.

The Mr. Ledyard competition already has a local business sponsor: the Gales Ferry Subway restaurant, The Day article reports.

Contestants are still needed for the September competition. Applications are available at local libraries, the Ledyard Parks and Recreation office, or by calling Michelle Hinton at (860) 464-5008.
