Ledyard Woman Named Mrs. Connecticut

The Mrs. Connecticut America Competition was held at Foxwoods in February

Ledyard's own Vanassa J. Sebastian has been named Mrs. Connecticut at the Mrs. Connecticut America Competition, The Resident reported.

Sebastian told The Resident that she is the first Native American Mrs. Connecticut, something she is "honored and sincerely grateful" for.

According to the article, Sebastian is also a survivor of breast cancer

“It is now very important for me to seize every moment and savor every experience," Sebastian told The Resident. "Since my diagnosis I have competed in the Special Olympics and Glory Relay Race and I am currently training for the New York City Marathon."

"Overcoming my fears and challenging myself by moving outside my comfort zone is a major change in my life."

She hopes to encourage others too, stating in the article that her "message is that women are strong, capable and in control of their own lives.”

“Balancing my career as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, a wife and a mother is both rewarding and fulfilling," Sebastian told The Resident.

"I want to share my experiences, celebrate my marriage, and inspire and advocate for other women — especially those with breast cancer.”
