Why take the Plunge? People should take the plunge because not only does the event help raise money for the Special Olympics, but it also helps to raise awareness for the acceptance and respect of those with intellectual disabilities. It’s not every day you see a group of people run into frigid waters. It leaves a lasting impression.

What does Special Olympics mean to you? The Special Olympics is a wonderful organization that builds communities, destroys misconceptions, and opens windows of understanding. I have no personal connection to the Special Olympics; however, I completely believe in its cause. It allows opportunities for those with intellectual disabilities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, and best of all, to experience joy. I enjoy supporting philanthropies and the Special Olympics definitely stands out as one of the finest. The Special Olympics mission statement really captures its sincerity and charity: “Through the power of sport, Special Olympics strives to create a better world by fostering the acceptance and inclusion of all people.”
