Scores of Local Children Participate in an Egg Hunt at Ledyard Fairgrounds

Children and parents crowded onto the Ledyard Fairgrounds this past Saturday, carrying baskets for the egg hunt. The festivities, organized by Ledyard Parks and Recreation along with The Ledyard Fair Association and the Honor Society, began at noon and offered separate egg hunts for children 8 to 10, 5 to 7, 3 to 4, and 2 and under.

In addition to the thrill of finding eggs hidden under piles of hay and leaves, the hope of finding a single golden egg in each age group spurred the seekers on. In the egg hunt for 3-to-5-year-olds, this honor went to a boy named Henry, who found the special egg behind a tree. “I never thought I’d find it till I found it,” he said.

When the eggs were all found, the children were treated to refreshments in the pavilion. They also had the opportunity to meet the Easter Bunny and several other furry friends. Devon O’Keefe, a teacher from Ledyard High School’s Agri-Science program, came with three of the school’s ferrets, and Connor Joseph from Preston brought two chickens.
