This Week In Ledyard: A Grand Old Fourth of July

First things first: What's the forecast for the Fourth of July?

The National Weather Service is reporting scattered thunderstorms with a high of 78 degrees and a low of 66 degrees. Oh, and muggy. For a change.

Hopefully the bad weather will hold off for the great Old Fashioned Fourth of July celebration put on by the Ledyard Historical Society.

Nathan Lester will read the Declaration of Independence! See the Colonial Magician, Joseph Potter; Ledyard Congregational Bell Choir; Colonial hearth cooking demo; Musket firing demo; Farm animals from Burton Farm; and Games: badminton, bocci, checkers, hoops, stilts! Bring a picnic or buy a hot dog & chips for $3. Free water and lemonade. All are welcome - admission is free! In case of inclement weather there will be indoor activities.

The Nathan Lester House and Farm Tool Museum is located at the intersection of Long Cove and Vinegar Hill Roads in Gales Ferry.

Speaking of the Thursday holiday, there are places that will also be closed Friday:

• Ledyard Town Hall and Ledyard Senior Center will be closed Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5.
• There will be no garbage collection on Thursday, July 4. Friday's garbage collection will be offset by a day.
