VIDEO: Sailfest Fireworks From The Eagle

Visitors to the Coast Guard barque get a spectacular view of Saturday's spectacle

Launched from barges in the middle of the Thames River, Saturday night's annual Sailfest fireworks allowed spectators to choose from plenty of locations in New London and Groton to view the pyrotechnics. But getting out on the water offered one of the more impressive views of the show, and many people witnessed the show from the Coast Guard barque Eagle.

A reception held aboard the Eagle welcomed the ship back to its home port in New London, the first time it has returned to the city since . The event also recognized Capt. Eric Jones as he prepares to cede command of the ship to become assistant superintendent at the , and unveiled a painting of the third Coast Guard ship to bear the Eagle name, a revenue cutter that served in the War of 1812.
