Week in Review: Middle School Project Update

Superintendent of Ledyard Public Schools Dr. Michael Graner made a request this week that the Town Council take off the appropriation of $45 million for the middle school renovation project from the spring ballot. The Town Council will act on that request in the next meeting.

It was definitely a harrowing week after the Boston Marathon was bombed. Some Ledyard residents and former Ledyard residents were running the race and thankfully they are not to be counted in more than 170 people who were injured and three dead from the bombing alone. Karen Moorehead, a Gales Ferry resident and Montville Police Officer was at the marathon cheering for the runners when the bombs went off. She and her friend, Connecticut State Trooper Jeff Meninno, sprung to action and helped administer first aid to some of the injured. Their interview with News 8 can be viewed here.

Patch learned that a surprise spring break by two dogs at the Ledyard Animal Shelter  sparked an outpouring of support from the community. Materials were donated and the facility will be much more secure from now on. Click here for full details.

Patch ran a short video feature on Kindermusik with Miss Terri in Gales Ferry. The program is for children ages 0 to 5 if you think its just music education, you might want to check out this video.

Along those lines, on Friday, the last weekday of April vacation, kids found their rhythm at the Bill Library. Ledyard kids were invited to and instructed about following their own beat and blending their beat with others’.

Weeks ago, Ledyard Patch had the opportunity to meet members from a group More Than Words when they visited Gallup Hill School and read Dr. Seuss’s “The Sneeches” to elementary students there. The reading was part of a lesson on diversity, which was followed by an activity in which students would describe their own unique qualities on a star. Recently all those stars were affixed to the wall at GHS and you can see photos here.
