Who Will Win The Patch Penguin Plunge Trophy?

The Penguin Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Connecticut is Sunday at Ocean Beach Park! Which bar or restaurant will raise the most money and take home the coveted Patch Penguin Plunge trophy? There's still time to sign up!

The Blizzard of 2013 snowing out the Special Olympics Penguin Plunge set for Ocean Beach Park in February turned out to be a good thing for all the participants: in Februry the average water temperature there was 37 degrees. On Monday, the water had heated up to a balmy 39!

Great news for all those Plungers — — but even better news is, there's still time to sign up for Sunday's Plunge!

Special Olympics is particularly looking for more bar/restaurant teams to join in.

And why wouldn't more bars and restaurants want to gather together a group of regulars and take a brisk run across the sand and an even brisker dip into Long Island Sound on Sunday at Ocean Beach? It raises money for a terrific cause and the team that raises the most money gets to proudly display the Patch Penguin Plunge trophy for a year!

The trophy, created by Sportee's in Waterford last year, has resided proudly on a very high shelf at Hanafin's in downtown New London. On Tuesday, Jackie Turro of Special Olympics Connecticut re-took ownership of the trophy until Sunday's event.

Right now on the Plunge website it looks like the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society in Stonington Village is in the lead to take the trophy.
