Get those calendars ready—your kid-friendly activities for the week are here. Check out story book-themed musicals at the Garde Arts Center or browse the endless piles of books at The Book Barn. We’ve got what you need to keep those kids busy—and to keep you from stressing over spilled milk.

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

WHERE/WHEN: Mystic Aquarium. Wednesday is opening day; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

WHY GO: This traveling exhibit will keep your little ones entertained, allowing them to see through the eyes of their favorite critters—at least until they start begging to visit the gift shop.

PRICING: Daily admission is $26 for adults, $19 for ages 3 to 17 and kids 2 and under are free. Family membership rates available, too.

WHERE/WHEN: Garde Arts Center in New London. Shows at 10 a.m. and noon on Wednesday.

WHY GO: Mini-musicals! Best-selling stories! That, and you’ll get time to sit and relax during the show.

PRICING: Tickets are $10 each. Groups of 15 or more get discounted rate of $8 each.

WHERE/WHEN: Children’s Museum of Southeastern Connecticut in Niantic on Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

WHY GO: Your 10-, 11- and 12-year-olds will like getting out of the house on a Friday night. You probably wouldn’t mind it either.

PRICING: Admission is $15 per tween.

WHERE/WHEN: Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Garde Arts Center in New London.

WHY GO: Because this guy knows way more about reptiles than you do. And he survived an attack by a 12-foot python. Beat that.

PRICING: Tickets are $18 for adults, $10 for students and children. Discounted rates for Mystic Aquarium members and groups.

WHERE/WHEN: The Book Barn in downtown Niantic. Open every day 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

WHY GO: Books, books and more books for moms AND kids. Oh, and the annual winter sale (30 percent off) ends Sunday.

PRICING: It’s OK to stock up. We won’t tell anyone.
