PHOTOS: Smiles Galore at Winter Wit and Whimsy Exhibit Opening

The Winter Wit and Whimsy exhibit will be on display at the Gales Ferry Community Center through February 6.

Smiles and chuckles were abundant at the Friday night opening of the Winter Wit and Whimsy exhibit at the i5 Gallery in the Gales Ferry Community Center.

Ceramic artist Lori Rembetski of New London, illustrator/painter Elaine Mills, Stonington, mixed-media artist and art teacher Nancy MacBride, Voluntown, and children's book illustrator Alice Facente, Ledyard, gave presentations about their work, some of them interactive.

Children used some of Ms Facente's poetry as inspiration for drawing their own art work. Tony Costa, nationally-recognized strolling musician and vocalist provided entertainment, and movies and games were available for kids during the event.

The evening concluded with a mouth-dropping performance by Justin Mazz Magic that fit the "smiles" theme perfectly.

The free event was co-sponsored by i5 Teaching Network LLC and the Gales Ferry District.

Winter Gallery hours are Tues. - Fri. Noon - 5:30, Sat. 10:00 - 12:00. Other times by appointment. The Gallery will be closed Jan. 17 & 18 for a special off-site event.

Sorry we weren't able to attend. The community center events are a real asset for Ledyard. How lucky we are to have this library/recreational complex in our town.
