Foxwoods, MGM to End Licensing Agreement

The move is part of an "ongoing makeover" at the casino, Foxwood officials said.

In the next six months, the brand name MGM Grand at Foxwoods will be no more.

The Las Vegas-based gaming coming announced this past week it is ending its licensing agreement with Foxwoods Resort & Casino, which is run by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.

The parties have agreed that there will be a six-month period for Foxwoods to transition from using the MGM Grand brand, MGM said in a statement.

The MGM Grand logo, depicting a roaring lion, is currently featured near the top of Foxwood's second tower. Neither party expects any material impact due to the end of the agreement, which was signed in 2006, the Mashantucket tribe said in a Hartford Courant story.

Foxwoods President Scott Butera told The Courant the end of the licensing is related to an "ongoing Foxwoods makeover" and that the casino wanted to consolidate its property under the Foxwood brand.
