Furloughs Begin at Navy Sub Base

Civilian employees at the Groton Navy Sub Base were given furlough notices Tuesday.

The Connecticut National Guard and the Navy’s submarine base in Groton felt the impact of Congress’ sequestration measures today when more than 600 military technicians received furlough notices. 

According to The Day, 618 civilian employees employed by the National Guard will be asked to stay home one day each week for 11 weeks beginning July 8. 

The Department of Defense furloughed most of its civilian personnel, and according to the day 750 or the 1,300 DOD civilian employees will be furloughed as a result of the automatic spending cuts caused by sequestration. 

The U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London escaped furloughs but have restricted travel to seminars, etc. as a result of reduced budgets.
