A Handful of Benefits Begin Today

There are several fundraisers in Ledyard or for Ledyard residents happening now, this weekend and soon.

 

There are a few important fundraisers happening this weekend and in the near future, and it’s too easy to get the dates, times and causes mixed up. Here’s a round-up of the local fundraisers that were shared with the Ledyard Patch. If you have any to add, please visit the Community Calendar and Add an Event.

Friday

All day today, California Pizza Kitchen in Foxwoods will donate 20 percent of your entire bill (take out, catering, dine-in, including drinks) to the Dawn Lafferty Hochsprung Memorial Fund. Hochsprung was the principal at Sandy Hook Elementary School who died on that fateful day trying to protect the children in her school.

Today’s the first of an annual event that will raise money for the foundation in Dawn’s honor. People are also welcome to donate directly to the foundation through their website.

Tonight, St. David’s Episcopal Church will hold a ziti dinner from 5pm -8pm to help the Munger Family rebuild and replenish their belongings and memories.

Since the fire on February 9 that completely destroyed the Munger home at 12 Nutmeg Drive in Gales Ferry, the community has come together to assist the family with the basic necessities. The price of the dinner is $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and children. Donations are also being accepted at Putnam Bank on 2 Chapman Lane c/o Munger Family Fire Fund.

Volunteers are still needed for this event.

Wheeler High School Class of 2004 invites everyone to dine out at Margarita's in Mystic tonight in support of the Perry Family. 15% of sales (food and drink) will be donated to the Perry Family Fund c/o Chelsea Groton Bank.

And, there is also a Pasta Dinner tonight in Norwich that will help Ledyard’s People to People student ambassador represent in Europe this summer. Kevin McDonald is a junior at Ledyard High School, a varsity member of the football, wrestling and lacrosse teams, and a volunteer cadet captain at the Ledyard Fire Department.

Kevin hopes to raise enough money to attend a nineteen-day educational program that will take him through Ireland, Wales, England, London, Isle of Wright, then to France. During the trip, he will be learning about other cultures and doing community service projects in small villages.

The dinner begins at 6 p.m. and costs $10 for adults, $5 for children and seniors.

Saturday

On Saturday, don’t miss the annual Music Boosters Italian Dinner/TRI M Talent Show featuring entertainment by a wide variety of music department ensembles. The dinner will be from 5:00-7:15 in the cafeteria, followed by the TRI- M Talent Show, which is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium.

Cost for the event is: Music Booster Italian Dinner - $6 adult and $4 children; TRI M Talent Show- $5; Combined Dinner/Talent Show- $10

Monday

Then on Monday, there is a Perry Family benefit at Valentino’s Italian Restaurant. According to Valentino’s Facebook page, 10 percent of the orders will go directly to the Perrys. The event lasts all day and includes dine-in and take-out orders.

Later...

th, make the trip to Mitchell College for a special evening in honor of Laurie Kammer, (a Ledyard High graduate, and LHS Chorus member) will be held at the Mitchell College Clarke Center.

Kammer is a 26-year-old Ledyard grad who broke her back in a tragic accident in 2012. People who know Laurie can attest to her resilient spirit and positive attitude. To find out more about her story, please go to Riseuplaurie.com.
 
The night will be comprised of dance performances, a special performance by Laurie and her friend, Mary Gardner and a presentation by L+M Neurosurgeon Patrick F. Doherty, MD. A silent auction and basket raffle will take place throughout the night.

Tickets $20 (Ages 3+); Children under 2 are free. Proceeds benefit Laurie and the Mid-Atlantic Spinal Cord Injury Fund.
