Poquetanuck Cove, a 2-mile long tidal cove of the Thames River situated between Ledyard and Preston, has attracted the attention of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as an area worth conserving.
The agency is funding the Eastern Connecticut Conservation District as they work toward forming a Conservation Action Plan for the cove, which upon completion, will hopefully be included in both town’s local plans of conservation and development.
Coordinator Jean Pillo has asked that Ledyard residents take the time to answer a few questions about their experience at the cove with this short 10 question online survey.
The group will use your answers to help best determine how to treat the cove and support its visitors for years to come. The group has treated the cove in the past for invasive plant species.
Besides from its scenic and recreational attributes, the cove has been distinguished as a bird sanctuary since 1969 and six rare plant species have been found in the marshes of the cove.
