Daily Five: Day In Court For Alleged Home Invaders, New Stretchers Made To Lift 700 Pounds

Five things to know on Monday, March 26.

 

1. Today promises to be sunnier than the weekend but the temperatures will be more  March-like than earlier this month. NOAA.gov says it will be sunny and breezy with a high near 48 degrees. Tonight will be clear with a low around 21 degrees.

2. Two men arrested for a home invasion on Maria Avenue in October are having pretrial proceedings this week. Vincent Sebastian 20, is up today and Louis Seignious, 22, goes before a judge Thursday.

3. Library asked the town to add $9,000 to their budget in order to restore one hour to their hours of operation and open doors at 9 a.m. Director Gale Bradbury said the amount was taken out of the budget two years ago.

4. The Finance Committee approved $17,081 for the purchase of two new stretchers for  LVES.  The new stretchers will have more powerful batteries, which will be waterproof and they are built to lift approximately 700 lbs. The current stretchers can only lift 400 lbs and the batteries are not really waterproof, according to Russ Shaw, administrator of emergency services. LVES will be able to trade in the old stretchers for $6,000 each and the balance will come out of revenue generated by LVES.
