Daily Five: Big Money Scholarships Offered For A Song, Literally

Five things to know on Tuesday, June 19.

 

1. Today is forecast to be cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 71, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 63.

2. Mayor Rodolico said the town is no longer getting a break on postage, so they’ll be looking for ways to reduce mailings.

3. There will be some timbering near the landfill. The timbering company will pay the town less than $5,000 to remove the damaged trees from the property.

4. FMC Agricultural Products is offering a $25,000 in scholarships to winners in their Anthem Singing Contest. Students ages 13-21 enter by submitting a video of you singing the National Anthem according to their website. Videos will be posted online for popular voting to determine four finalists. The four finalists will be interviewed and their performances recorded for airing on national TV. Online voting will determine the grand prize winner. Students must be a member of a national ag-related organization and the videos must be received by July 15.
