UPDATE: Ledyard Schools on 90-Min. Delay

Five things to know for Friday Feb. 24, 2012

UPDATED: Ledyard schools are on a 90-minute delay because of the snow. Police are reporting very slick conditions on the roads. I-95 north and south bound is closed in East Lyme because of a tractor trailer jackknifed.

1. Noaa.gov offers this forecast for the weekend: Today: Rain. High near 48. East wind 11 to 16 mph becoming north. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 43. Breezy, with a west wind 11 to 14 mph increasing to between 19 and 22 mph. Winds could gust as high as 33 mph. Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 39.

2. It's going to be beautiful on Saturday, which makes it a perfect day to head over to Olde Mistick Village for the annual Cabin Fever Festival and Chowder Cook-Off. The chowder portion is a fundraiser for the Pawcatuck Neighborhood center - 27 chowders prepared by fabulous local restaurants, including Ledyard's own and . Look for the Patch table and say hi, and stop by the judges' table to cheer on Regional Editor Elissa Bass, as she samples all 27 chowders!

3. If you feel like staying in town this weekend, stop by the Guiding Eyes for the Blind puppy class on Saturday and learn how you can get involved in this terrific program that raises puppies to become guide dogs. Or if you are feeling crafty, check out this Stampin Up workshop.
