3. Mota Brothers Asbestos, of Hartford, was awarded the asbestos abatement contract to remove asbestos from the floor in the high school for $159,990. They were the second to lowest bidder, the lowest bidder came in at $140,000 but committee members cited unfavorable references as a reason to go with Mota Brothers, which is the same contractor that has removed asbestos from other Ledyard schools.

4. Ledyard’s ceremonial golden shovels were dug up for today’s 10 a.m. groundbreaking with . According to the mayor and Mark Bancroft, the last big , privately funded building project was the in the middle of town and in Gales Ferry, which were built five to six years ago, they said.

This Sunday, Ledyard High School Amnesty International club is sponsoring a showing of  Kony and the LRA are allegedly responsible for mass killings, rapes and child abductions throughout Uganda, the Congo, South Sudan and Central African Republic, according to The Washington Post. The video has created quite a stir in matters related and unrelated to the civil unrest.  A survivor of the conflict will also be there and talk about his experience growing up in the war-torn region. The event is at the St. Luke Lutheran Church and begins at 6 p.m.
