Five Things: Citizen of the Year

Council Meeting, BB Shooter, Popular Dog Names

  1. Mostly sunny today except for a few afternoon clouds. High around 40F. Winds ENE at 5 to 10 mph. Gusty winds tonight with a mixture of rain and snow overnight. Low around 35F.
  2. Nominations for the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut's 62nd Citizen of the Year are being accepted until 4 p.m. Jan. 17. This honor is awarded for outstanding contributions to the civic and business community. No candidate will be considered who is paid to perform the services for which he or she was nominated, unless the contribution encompassed altruism toward the community far beyond the dictates of the job. The award will be presented at the annual celebration this spring.
  3. The Ledyard Town Council will conduct its first regular meeting of the year tonight at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall Annex. A lot of appointments and reappointments on the agenda.
  4. This week a reader reported that a friend’s car was struck with a BB gun on his way home from Foxwoods Sunday night. He and others pulled into a nearby Dunkin Donuts and spoke with two State Troopers there. The reader said a K-9 unit was brought in but there were no arrests reported. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Connecticut State Police at 860-848-6500.
  5. Did you see our poll on popular dog names? Betty Davis has a dog named Cooper. Not Gary Cooper? (Watch today for popular cat names.)
