Five Things: Farewell Dr. Mel

Route 12 Closed by Crash, CL&P Poll, Chicken Story

  1. Sunshine and some clouds today. High 36F. Winds E at 5 to 10 mph. Variably cloudy with snow showers tonight. Low near 30F.
  2. Dr. Mel Goldstein, southern Connecticut’s favorite weatherman since joining WTNH in 1986, died Wednesday after a long battle with multiple myeloma. He was 66.
  3. A fiery, head-on crash just after 5 p.m. Wednesday closed Route 12 near the Groton town line. Police said the road remained closed while state DOT workers applied sand after firefighters extinguished the blaze. One person was transported to Backus Hospital with accident-related injuries. Ledyard police and fire officials are investigating.
  4. Would you be willing to pay more for your electricity if it meant fewer outages? If you’re like most people… not so much.
  5. I don’t know from chickens. Fried, baked, barbecued… it’s all the same to me. So don’t ask me why I found this blog by Sharon Stegall so completely engaging.
