- Dr. Mel Goldstein, southern Connecticut’s favorite weatherman since joining WTNH in 1986, died Wednesday after a long battle with multiple myeloma. He was 66.
- A fiery, head-on crash just after 5 p.m. Wednesday closed Route 12 near the Groton town line. Police said the road remained closed while state DOT workers applied sand after firefighters extinguished the blaze. One person was transported to Backus Hospital with accident-related injuries. Ledyard police and fire officials are investigating.
