Five Things: Gales Ferry Open House

Holiday Hints, Football Preview, Lost and Found

  1. Partly cloudy early today followed by mostly cloudy skies and a few showers later in the day. High 52F. Winds E at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30 percent. Showers early tonight becoming a steady rain late. Low near 45F.
  2. The Gales Ferry District will be hosting an Open House and Community Holiday Social on Friday, Dec. 2, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., featuring the Ledyard High School Carolers at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome for an evening of socializing with neighbors, admiring the newly renovated community center, and listening to amazing live music. Drinks, snacks, and desserts will be provided, so bring the entire family to kick off the holiday season with an evening of fun and entertainment.
  3. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, the Ledyard Patch is planning to publish a column called Holiday Hints. This will be a little idea every day or so to help you really enjoy the holidays. Everyone has little tricks and ideas and solutions to make the holidays brighter (and more manageable). Email your hints to bill.thorndike@patch.com
  4. Big high school football games this week, many with playoff implications, including Ledyard's annual Thanksgiving game with Fitch. A win for the Colonels would mean a home game in the first round. Watch for our Thanksgiving football preview later today.
  5. We saw this Lost Dog sign in Gales Ferry. There seem to have been quite a few lost pets in recent weeks. We called and “China,” the lost Shih-Tzu, was returned to her owner this weekend. Happy ending.
