Five Things: Hygienic XXXIII

Winter Wonderland at Gallup Hill School, Winefest, Groton Heights Lecture

  1. Rain early today, then remaining cloudy with showers in the afternoon. High 53F. Winds SW at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 90%. Rainfall near half an inch. Partly cloudy and windy tonight. Low 31F.
  2. Tonight is the Winter Wonderland potluck event at Gallup Hill School, beginning at 6 p.m. Enjoy free crafts and activities, a teacup basket raffle and a performance by the 4th-6th grade chorus! Be sure to bring a dish (not a dessert) for the potluck dinner. The PTO will be providing dessert, drinks and table service. See you there!
  3. Hygienic XXXIII, the free, unjuried, uncensored art show/festival in New London, begins tonight with a Hootenanny at Muddy Waters. The show itself is Saturday night at the diner-turned-art center, but there are so many live music events, film screenings, children's shows, original stage productions and associated events going on all weekend, it truly is the arts event of the year in southeastern Connecticut.
  4. Are you a wine lover? You're in luck. The Mohegan Sun Winefest starts tonight!
  5. On Sunday at Bill Library, beginning at 2 p.m., Shirley Dunbar Rose, past president of the Friends of Fort Griswold, will discuss the Battle of Groton Heights. (This is the one in which Col. William Ledyard surrenders his sword, and you know the rest.) A film by Lee Moore will depict highlights of “In Our Own Words,” a first person presentation of what survivors experienced on the day of the battle.
