Government Poll, Creating a Grades 6-8 Middle School, New Subdivision Regs

  1. This week’s bitter cold snap was short-lived as the winter’s unseasonably warmer temperatures return to the region. Some clouds this morning will give way to generally sunny skies in the afternoon. High around 40F. Winds W at 10 to 15 mph. Tonight clear to partly cloudy. Low 27F.
  2. What are you hoping local government will accomplish this year? Today we are presenting a short poll in which readers are asked to state their priorities.
  3. On Wednesday the Ledyard school board heard a report on a proposal to move sixth-grade classes into the middle school, and also extend kindergarten classes to full-day. Creating a grades 6-8 middle school would be complicated and cost some money, but it could be inevitable. Watch for our report.
  4. The Ledyard Planning Commission will meet tonight at 7:30 in the Town Hall Annex. One of the items on the commission’s plate this year will be a new provision allowing subdivisions with lots of less than one acre, provided 60 percent of the development is committed to open space. Stay tuned.
  5. The exhibition “Diana, A Celebration” is now in its final days at . The exclusive engagement – the collection’s only Northeast stop – is set to close on Jan. 15. If you’ve been meaning to go, it’s now or never.
