Five Things: Public Meetings And $4 Movies

Five things to know on Tuesday, February 7

1. According to the poll attached to a story about the superintendent's proposed budget cuts, 29 percent of respondents said they’d prefer to see their taxes go up than cut the school’s budget, and 24 percent of respondents said they agree with the cuts. A total of 224 people responded to the poll, with 21 percent saying they’d like to keep the tutors, and 9 percent saying they’d like the teaching staff ot stay intact. Fourteen percent said they’d like to maintain programs that were being reduced or eliminated, such as Project Oceanology and 5th and 6th grade music instruction. A public forum about the budget will be held tonight at 7 in the auditorium.

2. Also, the Information Technology Committee is meeting tonight in the Annex Meeting Room at  5 p.m., the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission meets at 7 p.m in council chambers, the Land Use/Planning/Public Works Committee meets at 6:30 p.m. in the Annex Meeting Room,  the Municipal Building Committee meets at 5:30 in the Board of Education central office.
