Five Things: Some Election Loose Ends

A heart-felt thanks to those who have served the town well

  1. Another really nice day today. Sunny skies. High near 65F. Winds SE at 5 to 10 mph. Partly cloudy during the evening followed by cloudy skies overnight. A few sprinkles possible late. Low 52F.
  2. John Rodolico was the winner yesterday in the four-way race for mayor of Ledyard. He won easily, beating incumbent Mayor Fred B. Allyn Jr. by a 3-1 margin. Makes you think.
  3. There was lots of pizza being eaten after the polls closed. All of the candidates gathered at Valentinos, then the Democrats headed off to Fireside Brick Oven Creations in Gales Ferry. We are so lucky to have such excellent pizza restaurants in town.
  4. The town council will meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Hall Annex. For three members -- David Holdridge, Terry Jones and Jim Diaz -- tonight will mark the end of distinguished careers serving the town.
  5. The Board of Education also will soon bid farewell to three of its members -- John Phetteplace, Stephanie Calhoun and Barbara Kil -- each of whom made significant contributions to the board and the town's schools. To all whose service to the town is ending, many thanks for a job well-done.
