The 66th Ledyard Fair opens today at 6 p.m. and it looks like the fair committee has put together a really good one. Along with the old favorites, like the Miss Ledyard pageant, the rides, fried dough, oxen pull and pie eating contest there will be a goat costume show, chess tournament and a “Redneck Olympics.” Irish step dancers perform tonight.

The Fair’s opening ceremonies at 6 p.m. today will remember the nearly 3,000 victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks 10 years ago Sunday. Mayor Fred B. Allyn Jr. will address the crowd. Emergency response personnel and the military will participate. There will be a moment of silence and the Ledyard High School band will play the National Anthem.
