Five Things to Know Today

Moms Content, University Scholars, Fort Griswold, Get Lucky

  1. Ledyard Patch introduced several new features Wednesday as part of its new “Moms” content, including a new column, Without A Manual, by Michelle Tracy, and Whiz Kid, which features an outstanding Ledyard young person (Austin Sabo). Also launched yesterday was Moms Talk, a live chat on a topic of interest to moms. Yesterday’s topic was: Running a household on a budget. Check it out, and feel free to leave your two cents.
  2. Since publishing Deans List students from Ledyard this week we have heard from a couple of parents whose young scholars were inadvertently left off the list. We will keep the list out on the home page for a couple of days, so if you don’t seen your child’s name, please send us an email and we’ll update accordingly.
  3. On that topic (young scholars), Ledyard schools Superintendent Dr. Mike Graner informed us this week that University of Connecticut recently named its University Scholars. There are 29 of them from across the state and nation, including two, Britta Kunkemoeller and Hien Le, from Ledyard. (Mystic’s Eileen Semancik also made the cut.) Not too shabby. More to come, so stay tuned.
  4. Did you know the Mohegan Sun is offering an “In Love” overnight package for Valentine’s Day? It also is offering an “In Like” overnight package, and a “Get Lucky” package. (We could not make this up.)
  5. Connecticut State Library technician, actor and historian Kevin Johnson made a stop at the Public Library of New London Tuesday and delivered an awesome performance, portraying the black Revolutionary War hero Jordan Freeman. Johnson recounted the Battle of Groton Heights and the death of Col. William Ledyard by his own sword as he surrendered Fort Griswold to the British. Watch the video, courtesy of New London Patch.
