Five Things to Know Today

Cove Seal, Tea Party Patriots, Pottery Guy, 'Survivor' Auditions

  1.  Clearing and windy today, with a high temperature near 40F. Winds out of the northwest at 20 to 30 mph. Clear skies tonight with a low around 26F.
  2. A host of people gathered near the banks of Poquetanuck Cove Saturday to watch a seal lazing about on a floating piece of ice.  Emily Brawner and Denise Dittrich both posted photos on the Ledyard Patch Facebook page. Stay tuned for an update.  
  3. As many as 50 members of the local Tea Party Patriots group gathered outside Ledyard Center School Saturday, this time to protest new taxes proposed by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy in response to a $3.3 billion state deficit. 
  4. Pottery artisan Guy Wolff will be the guest speaker at a meeting of the Ledyard Garden Club at 7 p.m. tonight at the Ledyard Senior Center. Wolff will give a pot-making demonstration and discuss the U.S. history of the trade. Pots will be for sale after the event. 
  5. Listen up, “Survivor” fans. How would you like to be on the show? The CBS reality TV hit is holding auditions March 16, from noon to 5 p.m., at Foxwoods Resort Casino. The first 300 people will be guaranteed an audition. Mark you calendars!
