Five Things to Know Today

Gas Prices, Babe Ruth Field, New Foxwoods VP, Spring Skating

  1. Showers and windy conditions today, with the high temperature 44F. Chance of rain 60 percent. Rain tonight, heavy at times, with winds out of the east at 20 to 30 mph.
  2. Gas prices in Ledyard Center are still on the rise. On Wednesday, the price of regular gasoline at the Mobil convenience station was $3.67 a gallon, and at the Shell pumps by the Starr Wood village market a gallon of regular gas was $3.70.
  3. On Wedneaday, the Ledyard Town Council unanimously approved a "Fund 8" appropriation not to exceed $60,000 for construction of a Babe Ruth baseball field at Pfizer and other facilities improvements. Town voters will have a chance to consider the appropriation at a town meeting on March 23 at 7:15 p.m. 
  4. Mashantucket Pequot Gaming Enterprises announced Wednesday that Todd Greenberg has joined the organization as Senior Vice President. A 14-year casino industry veteran, Greenberg was most recently Senior Vice President of Operations and Chief Strategy Officer at Tropicana Entertainment in Las Vegas. He will report to Foxwoods President and CEO Scott Butera.
  5. Signs of spring? Not so fast. The MGM Grand at Foxwoods ice skating rink is open Monday through Thursday 2 to 10 p.m., Friday 2 p.m. to midnight, Saturday noon to midnight and Sunday noon to 10 p.m. And it will be open until April 3.
