Snow in Forecast, Local Economy Report, Rotary Scholarship, Artists and Writers Showcase

  1. Cloudy today with occasional rain showers. High 41F. Winds out of the northeast at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain is 60 percent. Tonight more rain likely. Low 36F. Rainfall may reach one inch. Looking ahead, possibility of snow on Friday. (No April Fools.)
  2. Groton, Ledyard and Electric Boat officials delivered a state of the local economy report Wednesday at an Eastern Connecticut Chamber luncheon. The consensus: things appear to be looking up.
  3. Ledyard Rotary is now accepting applications from graduating high school seniors for the 2011 Wesley J. Johnson, Sr. Memorial Scholarship of $1,000. Visit the club's website for more information.
  4. Don’t miss the Artists and Writers Showcase Opening at Bill Library this Saturday, April 2, from 1-5 p.m.  This event will kick off a month’s worth of writers and artists, whose work will be showcased during regular hours.
  5. Are you interested in penguins? Visit the Mystic Aquarium for their Cocktails & Conservation event tonight, beginning at 6 p.m. Wine, cheese, and Penguin expert Dr. Les Underhill will be there. (He may be wearing a tuxedo.) A $10 donation is suggested.
