Lego Castles, Time of Reflection, Pfizer Comes Through Again, BP Anniversary

  2. Medieval Week continutes at the Ledyard Public Libraries. Lego castle contest today from 10 a.m. to noon at the Bill Library. Winner will receive an autographed copy of Sir Ryan’s Quest. See our story on Tuesday’s visit by Jason Deeble. Medieval Crafts and a hands-on display Thursday at the Gales Ferry Library.
  3. A Labyrinth Walk at the United Methodist Church of Gales Ferry will take place today from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. This event is planned as a contemplative time of reflection during Holy Week.
  4. The United Way of Southeastern Connecticut named Pfizer the 2010 Community Leader of the Year after the company and its employees donated $2.1 million toward this year’s campaign. More than 30 percent of Pfizer’s local colleagues participated, which is good considering the cloud of uncertainty under which many of them work.
  5. One year ago today, British Petroleum's Deepwater Horizon offshore oil rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, claiming 11 workers and commencing the worst accidental oil spill in U.S. history. Before the leak was finally sealed off 87 days later, at least 4.9 million barrels of oil had escaped into the gulf.
