Five Things to Know Today

Autumn Arrives, CVS Approved, Coffee Shop Plan, Football Tonight

  1. Showers early today will become a steadier rain in the afternoon with a rumble of thunder possible. High 71F. Winds SSE at 5 to 10 mph. Rainfall near a half an inch. Tonight rain likely with a few thunderstorms. Low 67F.
  2. Today is the autumnal equinox, the first day of fall. Between now and the winter solstice (Dec. 22), the days will become increasingly shorter than the nights.
  3. The Zoning Commission last night approved a plan for a CVS pharmacy in Gales Ferry. (Yay!) This could be the start of something. Time will tell.
  4. The Economic Development Commission will meet early next week to discuss a proposal for a new coffee shop on the site of the former firehouse in Ledyard Center.
  5. The Colonels football team opens at home tonight against Windham. Game time is 6:30. It could be a wet one. I was going to suggest bringing a blanket (there are no bleachers) but you might want to bring a tarp instead. And get under it.
