Five Things to Know Today

Two Town Meetings Tonight, Two Ledyard Nightingales, 14 UConn Grads

  1. A mix of clouds and sun today, high near 65F. Winds N at 10 to 20 mph. A few clouds tonight, low 48F.
  2. There will be two Town Meetings tonight at the Town Hall Annex. The first meeting, starting at 6 p.m., will address a $3 million appropriation for road repair and maintenance. The second meeting, beginning around 6:30 p.m., will address the $5.4 million Aljen Heights water service project.
  3. Kristin Nunes and Karen Goetchius of the Ledyard Regional Visiting Nurse Agency was among 48 local nurses to receive Nightingale Awards last week. The awards are given annually to selected nurses from around the county in recognition for their dedication to the job. Congratulations Kristin and Karen!
  4. The University of Connecticut conferred degrees to more than 4,000 graduates Sunday, including Ledyard’s Brian Schwab, UConn’s top graduate from the School of Engineering, and 13 other Ledyard graduates. 
  5. Khayriyyah Munir, student speaker at UConn’s engineering school commencement ceremony Sunday, borrowed a line from comedienne Lily Tomlin that was apropos to young engineers, but also applies to most of us: “The road to success is a work in progress.”
