Updated: Five Things to Know Today

Bruins Are Champs, Hauler Suit, Farmers Market, JWL Fund-Raiser CANCELED

  1. Generally sunny today, despite a few afternoon clouds. High 79F. Winds SW at 10 to 15 mph. Tonight partly cloudy skies will become overcast late. Low 62F.
  2. After a 39-year drought, the Boston Bruins are Stanley Cup Champions again, downing Vancouver in Game 7 of the final series, 4-0. And just like that we're left with baseball, women's basketball and golf.
  3. The Town Council will hold a special meeting tonight to discuss litigation brought by F.E. Crandall Disposal Service, one of three hauling companies to bid on a contract for single-stream curbside collection, which begins July 1. Crandall was the low bidder. The contract was awarded to Sterling Superior Services. Crandall reportedly is seeking an injunction. Watch for our report.
  4. Wednesday was a perfect day for the Ledyard Farmers Market. We have pictures. Watch for them later this morning.
  5. This morning we told you about a fund-raiser in which 15 percent of all food sales between 4-8 p.m. at McDonald's in Gales Ferry would go toward new playground equipment at Juliet W. Long School. The fund-raiser has been canceled. No word yet on when it might be rescheduled.
