Five Things to Know Today

Kudos to Class of 2011, CVS Plans, Weekend Wine Fest, Car Cruise Night

  1. Areas of patchy fog early today, mostly cloudy with isolated thunderstorms developing during the afternoon. High 71F. Winds E at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30 percent. Isolated thunderstorms this evening followed by a few showers overnight. Low 62F.
  2. The Ledyard Board of Education conferred diplomas on 216 members of the Class of 2011 Thursday night. Making the night even more memorable was the wet, muggy weather. Most of the graduates left from the school for an all-night party at the Sub Base. Congratulations and Best Wishes to all!
  3. In a special meeting Thursday, the Zoning Commission reviewed a site plan for the CVS pharmacy proposed on Route 12 in Gales Ferry, across from the Ocean State Job Lot shopping center. Watch for our report.
  4. Maugle Sierra’s Summertime Wine Festival is Saturday, June 25, from noon to 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 ($15 in advance) to enjoy a day of fine wines, gourmet foods and music with Johnny and the East Coast Rockers.
  5. And if you have plans for tomorrow tonight, cancel them. Saturday is Car Cruise Night at Alice Acres in Gales Ferry. Classic cars and soft-serve ice cream, from 4-8 p.m. It doesn’t get any better than this.
