Five Things to Know Today

Malloy Visit, Miss Ledyard Fair, Carnival Day, Mayoral Race

  1. A shower or thunderstorm is possible early today. A few clouds. Low 64F. Winds ENE at 5 to 10 mph. Tonight partly cloudy skies. High 77F.
  2. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy will be in the area today as part of his “jobs and tourism” tour. He plans to arrive at Mohegan Sun at 11 a.m., and visit the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center at 12:45 p.m. From there, he will go to Foxwoods, remaining in the region until around 2 p.m.
  3. Yesterday you could almost feel a hint of autumn in the air. In fact, applications are available now for the Miss Ledyard Fair pageants. The application deadline is Aug. 15. You may pick up applications at the Parks and Recreation office, or at either of the public libraries.
  4. It’s Carnival Day for the Parks and Recreation summer camp kids, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m at Col. Ledyard Park. Carnival games, an obstacle course, moon walk, slip’n’slide, prizes, popcorn and more. 
  5. Petitioning candidate Robert Lawrence had some interesting things to say in today’s profile. He believes he has a chance in this year’s four-way race for mayor. He is sure he will get some votes. The plot thickens.
