Five Things to Know Today

Don't Forget to Vote, Rodolico Profile, Fisher Cat Photo, Giant Beaver

  1. Areas of patchy fog early today. Cloudy with occasional showers. High 73F. Winds N at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 40 percent. Rain showers in the evening with clear skies overnight. Low 64F.
  2. The process to elect a Judge of Probate has been the longest campaign ever. After today we won’t see those Nick Kepple and Eric Janney lawn signs anymore. The polls are open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Ledyard Center School and Juliet W. Long School. Don’t forget to vote, and watch for results tonight on Patch.
  3. There is another campaign going on – the four-way race for mayor of Ledyard. Today Republican mayoral candidate John Rodolico talks about his vision for Ledyard, and warns of some challenging times ahead.
  4. I couldn’t find a beaver photo to run with our beaver story yesterday, so I emailed Maggie Jones, director of the Denison Pequot-Sepos Nature Center in Mystic. She had sent us this neat photo of a fisher cat, right. Apparently no beaver photos, though.
  5. Which reminds me, if you go to the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center, you will see a facsimile of a Giant Beaver, which once lived in these parts many years ago. It’s as big as a small sheep.
