Five Things: Trade Winds at Stonecroft

Jazzercise Moves, School Budget Forum, Conversation Starter

  1. Except for a few afternoon clouds, mostly sunny today. High 39F. Winds WNW at 15 to 25 mph. Tonight partly cloudy skies early will become overcast later during the night. A few flurries possible. Low 31F.
  2. Jazzercise classes begin today in a new location, the former Gales Ferry School. Mayor John Rodolico, who helped facilitate the move from the Ledyard Senior Center to the new space, said he is hoping the exercise classes lead to an opening up of other activities, both at the former school in the Gales Ferry business district.
  3. The Ledyard Board of Education will conduct a public forum on the proposed $29.6 million school budget for 2012-13 on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the high school media center. Schools superintendent Dr. Michael Graner has cautioned that a nearly $1 million shortfall this year could result in the elimination of up to nine positions, including seven teachers.
  4. Last week, the Ledyard Zoning Commission granted Stonecroft Country Inn's application to serve meals to the public, in addition to its guests. Stonecroft has renamed the restaurant “Trade Winds at Stonecroft,” and owner Jason Crandall has appointed Richard Pasqualini to manage the dinning room operations. There is a new family-friendly menu with weekly specials, beginning Wednesday evening with a three-course dinner plus beverage for $49.95. Thursdays will feature All You Can Eat Pasta for $12.95, with children under 10 half price.
  5. Another blog from Daria Novak, another 50 or 60 comments. Like her or not, she certainly knows how to start a conversation.
