Heat Advisory Issued, Here's How To Stay Cool

National Weather Service says it will feel like it's hotter than 100 degrees.

 

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for parts of New London County that is in effect from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.


The advisory warns of "hot and humid conditions," and that "a large area of high pressure will provide hot conditions through Thursday afternoon."

The NWS issues a "when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 100 to 104 degrees for two consecutive hours."

The is inviting residents in to cool off and enjoy some TV and snacks and the libraries are also a good place to cool down. The senior center is open to senior citizens and they serve lunch an provide oodles of entertainment.

The NWS advised people to:

  • Take extra precautions ifyou work or spend time outside.
  • Reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
  • Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
  • Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible
  • Drink plenty of water.
